Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

I've been working on this for the past few days, and I find this model to be rather accurate if not exhaustive.

Maslow's

The theory works in such a way that one has to fulfill or satisfy the lower needs before attempting to satisfy the much higher needs.

The lower 4 needs are called Deficiency Needs and are absolutely imperative that one satisfies these before being able to reach the other 3 Needs at the top, called Growth Needs. (3, not 4 needs because Peak Experiences don't really count as a Need, it's just the state of enlightenment... something like that=P)

Physiological Needs are of course the most basic to fulfill because without them, life would be pretty much impossible anyway. As we move up the pyramid, the Needs get more abstract and less basic, especially so for the upper 3 Growth Needs.

It's after we've satisfied things like Food, Friendships, Respect, Security then we are able to move on to attempt to satisfy things like Beauty, Novelty etc.

Think about starving people, they won't care how shabby or ugly they are, as long as they get food. Then when they are fed, they look around for basic safety needs such as shelter. After they found a shelter, they look for friends and companions. Only after these do they care about things such as Respect and Competence.

For me, I think Love and Loving relationships will automatically propel a person into Self Actualization, but that's if the lower 2 levels are satisfied first; physiological and security. But then again, once this stage has been achieved, everything else might just not matter anymore.

Remember,
It's not when everything happens,
It's not where we are,
It's not what we do,
or what we have,

The important thing is "Who We're With!"

Hehe, work out the rest yourselves lahz kekeke...

Love,
Yangming

kv: hmm... can i suggest that self actualisation is more individual rather than in pair. although being in a couple or loving relationships might help, they are just supply which enable faster self actualisation (at times).

therefore, self actualisation can too be attain by single, if they are able to sort out their aim in life.

just my 2cts worth of thoughts. :)
